Thankful for You

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for celebrating my birthday.  You all made me feel so special when I received a basket of some of my most favorite things!  You are so very generous, and I truly love being your children’s teacher.

As I reflect back on what I'm most thankful for, one thing is certain.  I know I am truly blessed to be a part of such a loving and caring community. Thank you for sharing your children with me this year.  They really are a wonderfully loving and kind group of kids.

A Time to be Thankful

Dear Parents,

I would like to express my gratitude to those of you who have  or have a loved one serving in our military.  Your service and sacrifice is appreciated.  Also, this is the time of year that we tend to look at our blessings.  I am so thankful to work at such a lovely and compassionate school.  Thank you for the donations to the PTA Turkey Project.  It is wonderful to aid those in need.  Our community is very blessed.

Thanksgiving Feast:
Our Annual Thanksgiving Day Feast is Wednesday, November 15th during your child’s regular lunch time. We love to have family members join us! Please complete this quick google form so we know how many people to plan for. Thank you!  Click here to reserve your place.

Coffee House Poetry:
Please mark your calendars for December 1st at 9:45.  There will be a line to get in, so please come early to have your driver's license scanned.  If you have had your DL scanned this last week, you should be in the new system.  Anyone who scanned their license prior to that will need to come in prior to CHP or be here early.

Biographies:
Our new study in Reading is Biography.  Your child has selected a person of interest.  Reports require a minimum of three sources (one must be a book, one must be an internet article, and student choice).  The biography notes will replace the Reading Log.  Your child is expected to read each night and take notes.  Multiple sources will be needed to do a thorough job.

Seesaw:
Students are beginning to take on new tasks in Seesaw.  Make sure you check out what is new.

Units of Study:
Language Arts: Poetry and Biography
Writing: Capitalization
Spelling: Week 8
Math: 2 Digit by 2 Digit Multiplication
Science: Forces/ Hot Wheel Speedometry

Upcoming Dates:

A Season of Blessings

Dear Parents,

We have had a lot of fun this week with our Dead Word Funeral, Trick or Treating, experiencing life in a Spanish mission, and writing & analyzing poetry.  We are looking forward to Coffee House Poetry on December 1st.

Please notify the main office for changes in departures or messages for your child.  I check email prior to 7am and many times do not get another chance until after car duty is over.  The office will send a notification pink slip to your child.

Coffee House Poetry:
At Coffee House Poetry, each child will recite from MEMORY a mentor poem that they have selected from literature that is at least 16 lines long.  They will then recite an original poem they have written during this poetry unit.

Mentor Poems:
Students are required to memorize and recite a mentor poem at Coffee House Poetry.  Once I have approved their choice of poem, students need to type it up and decorate it with either a significant illustration with zero white space or add a significant border.  The final copy of their mentor poem is due on Tuesday, November 7th so that it can be added to their poetry book. I have added an example of a mentor poem below.  I will also need a copy of the poem, but it does not have to be illustrated.  The poem needs to include the title and the author on the page.  Students need to have their mentor poem memorized by Monday, November 27th so that we can begin practicing for Coffee House Poetry.

Weekly Reading Logs:
Now that we have completed our library reading incentive "Saddle Up and Read", we are back at our weekly reading logs.  All logs are already in your child's homework folder, and logs are due on Friday mornings.  Please remember that your child can complete the log early as long as they complete the days in order.  All descriptions for how to complete each daily log can be found in the homework folder.

Units of Study:
Reading/Writing: Poetry
Spelling: Week 7
Math: Multiplying 2 digit numbers
Science: Forces

Upcoming Dates:
November 7:  Mentor Poem due
November 20-24:  Thanksgiving holiday

Enjoy the fall weekend!
