Happy Holidays!

Dear Parents,

Thank you for sharing your children with me.  I enjoy spending my days with each of them.  Thank you so very much for spoiling me again -- thank you for the gift cards, the sweet treats, and all of the other gifts.  I am so blessed to be part of the Canyon Creek community.

See you next year!

Jack Frost Nipping at Your Nose

Dear Parents,

There is a chill in the air which means an abundance of jackets, scarfs, gloves, and caps in the Lost and Found.  Please put your child's initials in their clothing, so found items can be returned.

The Singing Stars entertained the neighborhood with their beautiful carols.  This is another CCES tradition for our students.  The entire school will enjoy the sing along next week.

I appreciate all the volunteers who baked or donated cookies for the Teacher Cookie Treats.  The cookies are delicious.  Unfortunately, I am going to have to get out a run a marathon to get rid of the cookie calories.

The Holiday party is Thursday at 2:00.  Please make arrangements for preschool or younger siblings.

School Supplies

This would be a good time to check with your child on replenishing school supplies.  I know several are out of pencils and dry erase markers.  A few colored pencils have been misplaced also.

Snow!

Dear Parents,

I hope you all enjoyed the snow yesterday evening!  It was so beautiful as it was falling from the sky, and it really made Austin look like a Winter Wonderland!

This week the students participated in Robolab.  It is always a memorable day of fun, exploration, and learning.  The students built and programmed rovers that were able to explore new planets.  They then programmed their rovers to use bumper sensors to make its way out of a maze and light sensors to follow a given path.  It always amazes me what they create.  Thank you to Mr. Wu, Mrs. Pintos, Mrs. Da, Mrs. Sheth, Mr. LaPenta and Mrs. Patterson for being there to offer some hands on support.  It is always needed and very appreciated!

From our Family Support Specialist:

Coffee House is Closed

Dear Parents,

Snap! Snap! What a wonderful event!  I can not be more proud of my class of poets!  I hope you enjoy reading their poems and looking at their beautiful illustrations.  Your child did an amazing job reciting a mentor poem and reading an original work of art.  Hopefully, poetry will be a life-long love for your child.  I’m so glad that I got to share my very first Coffee House Poetry with this group of kiddos.  I will always remember today.  Thank you to the Homeroom Moms for purchasing and setting up drinks and for decorating the room. Also, a special thanks to It's a Grind for providing coffee for parents. We appreciate you!

(If you have a great photo of Coffee House Poetry, please send it to me.  My picture did not come out well.)

Wonder:
After enjoying the novel Wonder together as a class, it is only fitting that we enjoy the movie together as well!  Tuesday, December 5th at 3:30 there is a showing of WONDER at Lakeline Alamo Draft House.  This is a non-sponsored school event, just something we thought we could enjoy outside of class together.  If your child is able to attend they need to be under adult supervision - either a parent or a parent of a friend if you are unable to attend yourself. I hope you can join us for this fun event.  Be sure to purchase your tickets early.  Two other classes will be joining us!
From Jenn Smith:
Welcome to a new year of Robolab! This fall, your 4th graders will learn how robots use sensors to navigate their environments - including extraterrestrial ones. We'll use Lego EV3 kits to build, program, and customize planetary rovers, then test them in our Planetary Exploration Lab. Parent volunteers help make Robolab even more fun for everyone. You do not need to know anything about Legos or programming; you only need to encourage the students to solve problems and supervise them while they build, program, and test their creations. Note that you will need to be registered as a volunteer through RRISD; there is more information at the link below.
