Goodbye January, Hello February!

Dear Parents,

Wow!  January went by so quickly!  Night Writes are due on Monday.  If you would like for your child to do more practice outside of school, you are always welcome to use the other January Night Write prompts.  Parents are teachers, too, and I always appreciate your help and support.

Thank you 2nd grade parents for providing a fabulous Friday Feast! The Super Bowl goodies will certainly make it on my Super Bowl Party menu next Sunday.

PARENT CLIMATE SURVEY:
The annual Round Rock ISD survey is now open for parents to provide valuable feedback on how schools are working and what can be done to improve campus and district practices.  The survey will be available through February 9th and can be access in English and in Spanish.  Parents are greatly encouraged to participate as the survey serves as the district’s primary source of obtaining feedback about their experiences and how they can be improved.  All surveys are anonymous.

We are continuing to read There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom, and the class is really enjoying the book.  This week students will fill out a sheet in Google Classroom identifying two character traits of one character from the book.  Students must provide specific text evidence from the story to support their reason of choosing the trait to describe the character.

It's a NEW Year!

Dear Parents,

Welcome back!!  I hope you and your families enjoyed spending time with each other over the winter break.  My little family planned a trip to New York City -- before we knew of the bomb cyclone that was going to hit the easter part of the country.  We arrived the day before the blizzard, and then we spent the next few days in frigid temperatures!  As cold as we were, we enjoyed seeing all of the snow, and we were so fortunate to share with our son some of our favorite parts of city.

The new year is a time for reflection.  As I do so, I am continually thankful to be here at Canyon Creek working with and getting to love your children.  Thank you for the privilege to be your child's teacher!  Have an amazing New Year!

What a wonderful week back with your kiddos!  I really did miss them over the break... not the 5am alarm clock... but definitely them! We have hit the ground running in all subjects!  Thank you so much to everyone for the prompt return of the Education Galaxy forms.  We plan to directly work with the math component, but there is a reading, writing and science piece as well.  Feel free to use this as additional support at home for those subjects.

Night Writes:

Night Writes is a program that we will begin this month.  We have designed a Night Write packet that came home this week in your child's homework folder.  PLEASE help your child keep track of this.  We will use the packet for the next couple months.  HOW IT WORKS - Each month will begin with a choice menu of prompts.  They are to circle one prompt that they would like to take to final copy.  They then must work through all steps of the writing process.  Each step has a page in their booklet as well as some pointers and a given time frame to help with pacing.  Please feel free to use this as a tool to help work with your child on the development of their ideas, grammar, spelling, word choice, organization etc. In doing so though we still ask that the piece remains authentic to them.  As a parent, you could conference with them about their idea to make sure they are on the right track and again with the editing and revising.  Please try not to over help and rewrite the composition for them (Believe me, I know it is hard to resist at times!)  Thank you again for your support with their writing.  Your work with them, as always, is invaluable!
