Two Weeks and Counting .... Spring Has Sprung!

Dear Parents,

Please click on the following link to view the videos that the students created using the new-to-us Comics Head app.  Students worked together to write their own retelling of a piece of traditional literature  in the form of a drama.  They then “acted” out the parts using the app.  I am so impressed with their work, and we are looking forward to the next time we can use Comics Head as part of our learning!

BOB BULLOCK MUSEUM FIELD TRIP:
Mrs. Patterson, Mrs. Radhakrishnan, Mr. Morgan, and Mr. Sepe will be our chaperones for our field trip next Thursday!  If you would like to join in on the fun, please send me an email so that I may get you all of the information you will need.  For the field trip, it would be helpful for your child to be in a CCE shirt so that they are easily recognizable.  Also, we will be eating lunch onsite.  Each student will need to have a sack lunch that is completely disposable.  We will not have coolers with us and the lunches will remain on the bus until lunch time.  If your child’s lunch needs to stay cool, freezing a water bottle and including it in the lunch will help with this.  We will have time for the kiddos to eat a snack before we leave.  If they choose to bring a snack, please have it packed separately.  Thank you!

UPCOMING DATES:
February 26th & 27th - Math and Reading STAAR Ready
February 27th - Fourth Grade Musical (meet in music room at 5:55)

Spelling: NO SPELLING
Writing: complete Favorite Part of Me writing project

Love is in the Air!

Dear Parents,

We have had another great week in fourth grade!  The flu has not invaded our classroom, and we remain vigilant!  Thank you again for sending in extra boxes of tissues.  I think we are good to go for a while!

I have added some pictures of the students working hard on retelling their choice of traditional literature in the form of a drama.  Students are working in teams to write their dramas, and they are also using the Comics Head app to illustrate their dramas on the iPads.  I can’t wait to see the finished products!

EDUCATION GALAXY:
Students will be switching to the reading portion of E.G. instead of math for homework next week.  All students will take the pre-test Monday.  They will follow the same directions as the math to find their unique learning path for reading.  Of course, students can continue working on the math!

VALENTINE’S DAY:
Students can bring their Valentine cards and decorated box starting on Monday.  Please be sure each card is addressed to individual students.

NIGHT WRITES:
February Night Writes have been explained and are due on February 26th.  Students should consult my “glows and grows” for improvement.  Writing a well written expository composition is a skill that will serve your child well in the future.  Thank you for your support on this.

BOB BULLOCK MUSEUM FIELD TRIP:
Our trip to the museum in March 1st.  This is the only field trip that chaperones are necessary.  Thank you to Mrs. Patterson for volunteering.  I still need at least 4 more parents to volunteer.  If you are interested, please let me know and I will send you more information.  Thank you for your consideration.

UPCOMING DATES:

February 23 - Multicultural Fair at 5:30pm
February 27 - Fourth Grade Musical

Super Moon, Super Week!

Dear Parents,

I hope you had the chance to view the Super Moon, Blue Moon, and Lunar Eclipse this week.  Great timing since we began our study of weather and patterns of Earth.  We are practicing Education Galaxy too.  It is a stellar time to be a CCES Comet.

IMPORTANT HEALTH MESSAGE
We are still seeing many cases of flu, strep and other illnesses. Thank you for being mindful of the “24 hour rule”! This rule is: students must be fever-free and symptom-free for 24 hours, without medication, before returning to school. We are doing everything in our power to keep our building as clean as possible, as well as encouraging frequent hand washing. Hopefully together we can prevent the spread of these germs.  And a huge thank you to those of you who sent in tissues!  Our class greatly appreciates it!

FEBRUARY NIGHT WRITES
February Night Writes will be assigned on Monday and will be due on the 26th.  As before, students will select one prompt to complete the entire writing process.  I have made comments (a “glow” and a “grow”) on each student’s January Night Write, and I will be conferencing with the students on how to improve their writing even more.  I hope that each student will look at their “glow and grow”, and use that information towards their writing in February.

VALENTINES
All students should give a valentine to each student in our classroom.  Valentine boxes may be brought no earlier than Monday, February 12th.  The party will begin at 2:00 on Wednesday, February 14th.

BOB BULLOCK MUSEUM FIELD TRIP
Our trip to the museum is March 1st.  This is the only field trip that chaperones are necessary.  I am looking for 6 moms or dads to volunteer.  Chaperones will need to purchase their tickets and provide their own transportation.  If you are interested, please let me know, and I will send more information.
