All Aboard!!

We really enjoyed watching the Balloon Launch this morning!

Dear Parents,

Spring Break flew by, and we are getting down to the wire for STAAR Writing (April 9th).  We have wrapped up both our nonfiction text structure study and our expository essay in language arts, began our study of customary units, and we have created several activities in science all while learning about animal and plant adaptations.  We have worked hard and are looking forward to Cruise Write Along week next week!

Friday Feast
Thank you for the delicious soup and salad lunch at Friday Feast.

Cruise Write Along
We have a fun week planned for the students.  In order to make this a memorable experience, our classroom has been transformed into a cruise ship and beach theme.  Thank you to Sarah B., Sarah S., Jayanthi, Lori, Jessica, and Ella for helping to decorate. Students may bring beach towels, low sitting beach chairs, and inflatable floats on Monday, April 1st (not fooling) to use while participating in our ship’s activities.  Please make sure everything is labeled so that it may be returned to the rightful owner. Our room moms have provided Cabana snacks for the week, but students are welcome to bring their own snacks from home. Backpacks do not need to be brought next week in order for kids to have the most amount of space to explore the ship.  It is going to be fun.

Each day will be a theme dress up day.
Monday - hat day
Tuesday - tropical wear day (no swimsuits)
Wednesday - sunglasses day
Thursday - flip flop day

Field Trip
Our field trip to the Meadows Center will be on Thursday, April 11th.  Students will need to bring a completely disposable sack lunch (including drinks).  Please pack snacks separately from lunch as we will have snack before we leave school at 9:30.

Countdown to Spring Break

Dear Parents,

Wow!  I am always so amazed at how many cultures are represented at CCE and in my classroom.  I really enjoyed hearing about the students’ favorite foods and stories from their ancestors this week, and I am looking forward to the Multicultural Fair tonight.  It is always one of my favorite events of the year!

On Thursday we were able to watch a Skype video with the author of the How to Train Your Dragon series, Cressida Crowell.  She shared so many interesting tips on how to write good stories with interesting characters.  She even shared writing notebooks that she has had since she was 9 years old! We were all very much inspired to “free write” for at least 15 minutes every week in order to keep our creative juices flowing.

From Girl Scouts
Pay It Forward week started March 4, and we need you to help donate to the Rainbow Room Round-up!  The Rainbow Room is a non-profit organization that provides supplies to children in foster care. Girl Scout Troop 2523 is teaming up with the PTA to collect new items like sheets, blankets, toiletries, and diapers to Pay It Forward to the Rainbow Room and the children in Child Protective Services.  Your child can drop off items in the box in our classroom. Pay It Forward runs until March 15.

Tissues
With Austin allergies and the cold and flu season, we are out of tissues!  Thank you to those who have donated a few more boxes of tissues, but our classroom could use some more.  If you could pick up a box the next time you are grocery shopping, our allergy sufferers would really appreciate it!

Education Go Get It
Education Go Get It Week is next week.  All week there are spirit days to promote higher education:
Monday - My Career Starts Here -- wear your CCE t-shirt
Tuesday - So Many Choices for Higher Ed -- wear a college/military/training/academy t-shirt
Wednesday - Show Off Your Interview Skills - dress in interview clothes
Thursday - When I Grow Up - wear clothes to represent your future career
Friday - My Future’s So Bright - wear sunglasses

March Comes In Like a Lion!

Dear Parents,

Cruise Write Along Volunteers
I am looking for some AMAZING parents to help me transform our room into a beach oasis for Cruise Write Along.  This is such a great week of confidence building for their writing, and the transformation of the room sets the tone for a fun, hardworking week!  If you would be able to come in on Friday, March 29 at 2:00 to help with this transformation, I would be forever in your debt! Please email me to confirm your availability.  Thank you!!
